How These Two People Can Relate to Today
Theses two remarkable people connect to today because they did many significant things. Archimedes invented a water wheel later to become a steam engine. Also, Eratosthenes did the impossible and made his calculations about the width of the earth and the distance of the sun to it very accurately. Since they didn't have satellites or GPS, he had to find the elevation of the Sun, at noon on the Summer solstice on an island in Alexandria, close to Syene.
